European Day

We celebrated the European Day with a festival in one of the small schools where parents take different foods from their countries: Morocco, Rumania, Bulgaria and Spain and we cooked spaghetti with the sisilian recipe More or less) but we explained the full recipe and the ingredients. We spent a nice day cooking and eating. Also the children sang songs from their countries and we watch dvds and pictures fron their countries and images from Sicilia.

Colegio Rural Agrupado Moncalvillo

Our school, called Colegio Rural Agrupado Moncalvillo (Rural schools group), includes five villages: Entrena, Medrano, Nalda, Sorzano and Viguera, a rural area, twenty minutes by car from Logroño, the capital city of La Rioja, in the north of Spain.

 

 

 

The School

The school has got 14 classes in five villages and a staff of 25 teachers. Five classes belong to nursery school. The others are spread between grades 1 to 6. The number of students is 168.

The Villages

These villages, in spite of being within a 10 Km radius, can split up into two groups:
Medrano, Entrena and Sorzano are in the foothills of the “Moncalvillo Range”, on the western bank of the Iregua River. Nalda and Viguera are located near the river, on the right bank.
The number of inhabitants is roughly the following: Entrena: 1,100 inhabitants, Medrano: 230, Nalda: 770, Sorzano: 250 and Viguera: 390.
The economy of the villages is based on farming: cereals, vines and cattle.
There are some important companies dedicated to fruit and vegetable processing. This is a solid middle class conservative area. There is an increasing interest in cultural activities and community associations.

Projects

European Project
Our School was participating in a Comenius School Project called “Richness in Variety” with four schools from U.K., Poland, Italy and Hungary during three years (2003-2006)

Computers Project
We participate activily in differents projects concerning with teaching and learning New Technologies. We have won one First and one Second Prize in Educative Innovation in our Autonomous Community of La Rioja concerning with New technologies.

Drama Project
Our pupils have a specialized teacher to improve everything concerning with artistic expression and to prepare schools festivals . We have won the First Prize in Educative Innovation in relation with the teaching of Music and Drama.

Library Project
We are working on an ambitious plan for computerization of the libraries in our schools, and we have an Educative Innovation Project to work in reading and writing with pupils.

Tablet PC Project
We are the first school in our region that is working with Tablet PC in one of our classrooms.
